What happened to me? I used to be so… unhappy, unorganized, unfocused, and confused inside.
Somewhere along my life journey I changed. I became honest, likable, responsible, driven, motivated, and productive? Somehow, at some point, I changed from an entitled, ungrateful, manipulative human being into a man I am proud to be today.
So how does a person make that change? Without losing yourself in the process, how do you become a better person?
I think the first step is targeting the stimuli which you are ingesting into your body, which is turning you into the person you’re not 100% happy with.
Our culture is full of rotten content, or spiritual “food” that we are consuming constantly, maybe without even knowing it. There are the extremes… Too much drugs and alcohol can discombobulate a person’s insides, making you get all twisted around on who you are ultimately called to be, and leading you down dark twisting paths that lead only to disappointment, addiction, and death. And there are the little subtle influences that lead us down a path of personal derangement. A little media here that makes you feel lonely, and a group of “friends” we compare ourselves to that make us feel inadequate and frumpy.
Every time you take some of this horrible “spiritual food” in, you become less of who you’re supposed to be, and more of a lost, dejected, shell of yourself who is trapped in the personal prison you create for yourself.
So how do you reverse this unhappy path, and turn your life journey around from becoming a path of wastefulness, into an adventure that empowers you and leads you to the answers where you discover who you’re destined to become?
It’s as easy as changing your spiritual “eating habits.” It’s a natural law: You consume rotten stuff, and you’re going to feel rotten about yourself. But when you consume healthy stuff that fulfills your spirit, like real friends; activity that makes you dream, think, and pray; and a lifestyle of goals and challenges that you work at daily to achieve and overcome; you suddenly start feeling great about yourself.
If you eat these “healthy foods” on a daily basis, you no longer have to feel dejected and lonely. You can feel empowered. You can feel like you’re becoming the person you were created to be. You can become a warrior who is unique, talented, cool; and driven with a real, creative, and one-of-a-kind purpose of life.
Ultimately, you have the power to become a scientist of your life. Someone who studies you’re every move, and makes the choices to improve the quality of the spiritual foods you eat and the quality of your life. You can build a form of spiritual enlightenment inside yourself, and fix yourself from the inside out. You can build a sanctuary for God to live, guide, and inspire you inside yourself, and then unlock the power of who you truly are called to be. Once you unlock that power to become great inside yourself, you can change the external world around you the same way you fixed the problems inside yourself.
I became a better person I am now proud of by following this 3 step journey:
- I found new God-loving friends who encouraged me to fearlessly explore who I was, and helped guide me down the path of finding who God wanted me to be.
- I threw all of the unhealthy spiritual food I was consuming into a wayside trash bin – drugs, alcohol, dishonesty, and crappy media – and stepped out in faith to try to find a better life without it.
- I replaced all of my old trash, with a hunger for adventure and soul experimentation. I realized the only way to discover who I was, was to fearlessly explore all the new avenues ahead of me.
I realized I could no longer wait for life and God to come to me. I had to go out and find MY exciting life. I realized I had to work to build my relationship with God. That’s when my life adventure started to turn around, and I started to become someone I was proud to be, rather than someone I was embarrassed and ashamed to be.
I ultimately became a better person, because once I began to work at my life, God to come in and helped me fix myself. Once I started to become healthy again, he started guiding me to where I had a chance to become the man I always dreamed I could be.
