How to Give Your Overwhelm to God

Have you ever had a moment where God stopped you in your tracks and reminded you of something you really needed to hear?

Not in a dramatic way. Just a quiet nudge. A gentle invitation that said slow down. I have something to show you.

That happened to me recently. And what came out of that moment is exactly what I want to share with you today.

Because I think a lot of us are really good at inviting God into our devotional time. We open our Bibles, we pray, we journal. And then we close it all up, open our laptops, and go right back to carrying everything in our own strength.

And we wonder why we feel so exhausted. So behind. So stretched thin.

Friend, I have been there. And this blog is for you if you have been there too.

Our Anchor Verse

Before we dive in, I want to root us in the verse that anchors everything we are talking about today.

“On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, ‘Anyone who is thirsty come to me. Anyone who believes in me may come and drink. For the Scriptures declare, rivers of living water will flow from his heart.'” John 7:37-38

I love this verse because Jesus did not whisper this. He stood up and shouted it. Every single person needed to hear what He was about to say. Come to me. All of you. Come and drink.

And here is what strikes me most. He was speaking to a crowd of people who were at a festival. They were busy. Distracted. With places to be and people to see. And Jesus stood up in the middle of all of that and said come to me.

That is His invitation to us today too. Not when life slows down. Not when we finally have it all figured out. Right now. In the middle of the busy.

The Walk That Changed Everything

I want to tell you about a moment that happened recently that I have been sitting with ever since.

God invited me to go on a walk with Him. And I literally burst into tears.

Not because something was wrong. But because I realized in that moment just how long I had been trying to hold everything together on my own.

Two businesses. Homeschooling my kids. A workshop coming up. A YouTube channel. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, I had completely forgotten to let Him in.

Not in my quiet time. But in the actual work. The actual chaos. The actual day to day of it all.

And on that walk, He reminded me of two things.

You are held. And I never asked you to carry this alone.

I cannot tell you how much I needed to hear those words. And I have a feeling some of you do too.

What It Actually Means to Let God In

I think a lot of us have a version of God in our lives that looks something like this. We invite Him into our mornings. Pray before meals. Show up at church on Sundays. And then we go about the rest of our lives largely on our own.

But that is not the relationship He wants with us.

He does not want to be a part of your morning routine and then wait quietly in the corner while you hustle through the rest of your day. He wants to be in the middle of all of it. The emails. The client calls. The hard conversations. The moments when you do not know what to do next.

He wants to be your living water. Not just your morning devotional.

And the beautiful thing about living water is that it does not run out. It just keeps flowing. When you are connected to the source, you never have to run on empty. You never have to white-knuckle your way through the hard days. You just keep coming back to drink.

What This Looks Like Practically

So how do we actually do this? How do we stop doing life alone and start letting God into the everyday?

Here are a few things that have been helping me.

  • Start your work block with a business meeting with God. Before you open a single tab or check a single email, sit with Him. Tell Him what is on your heart. Ask Him what He wants you to focus on. And then listen. This practice has completely transformed the way I show up in my work, and I talked about it in depth in a previous video that I will link below.
  • Pray out loud throughout the day. Not just in your quiet time. Any time you are transitioning from one thing to the next, take 30 seconds and pray out loud. In the car. In the kitchen. Walking to your desk. Let God into the in-between moments not just the scheduled ones.
  • Notice when you start to feel the weight. Because here is the thing. When you are truly connected to God, life still gets hard. But the weight of it feels different. And when you start to feel that heaviness creeping back in, that is your indicator that you have started to carry it alone again. That is your cue to stop, breathe, and come back to Him.
  • Release the outcomes. This is the hardest one for me. But at some point we have to decide that we are going to trust God with the results of what we are building. Not just pray and then obsess over the numbers. Actually trust. Actually release. Actually let Him lead.

This Is for You, Friend

Friend, I want to leave you with this.

You are thirsty. I know you are. Because we all are. And Jesus is standing in the middle of your busy life, shouting at the top of His lungs, come to me. Come and drink.

Not when you have more margin. Not when the kids are older or the business is more stable or life slows down. Now. Right now. In the middle of the chaos and the full calendar and the never ending to-do list.

He is the living water. And when you are connected to Him, rivers of living water will flow from your heart. Out into your business, your family, your community. Everything that flows from you will be sourced from Him.

That is what I want for you. And I genuinely believe it is what He wants for you too.
