Godly Metrics of Success Every Christian Entrepreneur Needs to Hear

Have you ever stopped to ask yourself whether the metrics you are using to measure success in your business are actually the right ones?

If not, friend, this one is for you.

In this blog, I’m sharing four kingdom metrics that I believe God wants us to live by as Christian entrepreneurs, and how trading the world’s version of success for His will bring you more peace and calm than you have ever felt before.

If you missed last week’s blog, go check it out first because it sets the foundation for everything we are covering in this series. You can find it right here.

The Metrics We Never Questioned

Whether you realize it or not, you have a set of metrics you are basing your success off of. For most of us, those metrics were never really chosen intentionally. They were just adopted from the coaches, the experts, and the industry voices we were listening to.

That’s exactly what happened to me. I wanted to learn about business, so I went to coaches, chased strategies, and tried to figure out what success was supposed to look like, without ever stopping to ask, “Is this what God would want for my business?”

I got so swept up in the worldly way of doing business that I honestly didn’t even realize there was another way. So today, let’s talk about the four kingdom metrics I believe God wants us to live by instead.

Worldly Metric #1: Income → Kingdom Metric: Impact

Income is the one that feels the most tangible. If our business is making money, we feel successful. And I’m not saying income isn’t important, because it is. But when we attach our income to our identity, it becomes a very slippery slope.

Ecclesiastes 5:10 says it best: “Those who love money will never have enough. How meaningless to think that wealth brings true happiness.”

If we don’t learn to be content with where we are right now, we will never be content. So what if instead of asking “How can I make more money?” we asked “How can I make more impact?” Because when we steward the impact God has for us, I truly believe income will follow.

Worldly Metric #2: Popularity → Kingdom Metric: Purpose

Doesn’t social media sometimes feel like high school all over again? Who has the most followers, the most viral content, the most likes? We start this comparison game and it sends us down a really dark spiral.

But the Lord is inviting us to trade popularity for purpose. When we step into our God-given purpose, content flows naturally instead of being forced. We stop creating out of panic and start creating out of peace, knowing we are serving an audience of one.

Worldly Metric #3: Accumulating → Kingdom Metric: Abiding

There’s this unspoken rule in the business world that success looks like accumulating things. The nice house, the new car, the perfect studio setup. But we can accumulate all the stuff in the world and still be deeply unhappy.

John 15:5 reminds us: “Those who remain in me and I in them will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”

Instead of chasing more, the Lord is inviting us to abide. To rest in Him. Because rest is productive, friend, and the Lord can do so much more with our rested selves than with our do-it-in-my-own-strength energy.

Worldly Metric #4: Striving → Kingdom Metric: Surrendering

The world says hustle hard enough and you can do whatever you want. But that is not the life God wants for us. He wants us to surrender.

Surrendering doesn’t mean sitting back and doing nothing. We still have work to do. But it changes our posture from “I can and I will and this is mine” to “Lord, I am your vessel. Use me however you want.”

Philippians 4:11-12 says: “I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or an empty one, with plenty or with little. For I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.”

All we need is Him.

Which Metric Do You Struggle With Most?

Income. Popularity. Accumulating. Striving.

We all have one that hits closer to home than the others. I would love to hear which one resonates with you most. Come find me on Instagram at @thepurposegathering and send me a DM. I read every single one and I would love to have that conversation with you.

Part 3 – Actively Pursue Him: Next week I’m sharing the one practice I do every single time I sit down for a work block, and how it has completely transformed the way I show up in my business as a steward, not a CEO. You are not going to want to miss it.

A Note Before You Go

The world will always have a metric for success dangling in front of us. But God’s finish line looks completely different. His metrics are impact, purpose, abiding, and surrendering, and when we align our lives and businesses with those four things, everything changes.

So I pray that you would obediently walk in step with the Lord, that you would allow Him to lead your life and business, and that you would do it even though you’re scared.

Because the Lord does His best work in our weakness, because He is made strong.

Come hang out with us here every week, and I cannot wait to see you in the next blog post.
