The Business Meeting With God Every Christian Entrepreneur Needs

Have you ever sat down to work and just felt completely lost?

Like you had a million things on your to do list but no real clarity on where to start or what God actually wants you to focus on?

If so, friend, this one is for you.

In this week’s blog, I am sharing the practice that has completely transformed my business over the past two years. It is called a business meeting with God, and I cannot wait to walk you through exactly how to do it.

If you have been following along in this series, you already know that we have been talking about trading business strategy for surrender.

This is part three, and it might just be my favorite one yet. If you missed the first two, I would love for you to go back and start there first.

Part 1 – Why Christian Entrepreneurs Need Surrender More Than Strategy

Part 2 – Godly Metrics of Success Every Christian Entrepreneur Needs to Hear

Where This Idea Came From

I want to give credit where credit is due because this is not my original idea. It came from Shae Bynes and her book Grace Over Grind.

If you have not read it yet, I cannot recommend it enough. It is short, it is quick to read, and it is so incredibly powerful. I actually read it twice before I finally started putting it into practice, and when I did, everything shifted.

When I first heard about this concept, I loved the idea but did not actually do anything about it for a few months. Sound familiar?

But when I finally picked the book back up and started implementing it, my business looked completely different. The Purpose Gathering Collective was born. My entire audience shifted. Purpose Pages came to life. And I truly believe that none of that would have happened without these business meetings.

Why This Practice Matters

For a long time I was doing business with a little bit of Jesus sprinkled on top. I was praying that He would bless the plans I had already made, but I was not truly inviting Him into the process. I was not allowing Him to be the CEO.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”

That is exactly what these business meetings are designed to do. Not just asking God to bless what we have already decided, but truly seeking what He wants for our business and creating space for Him to lead.

I do these meetings every single work block, two to three times a week, and they take me anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour depending on how much I need to process. I do mine in a Google Doc, the same document for an entire year, and then I start a new one. It has become one of the most powerful journals of my life and business.

The REAL Framework

Here is how to conduct your business meeting with God, step by step.

R – Release

This is your brain dump. Before you do anything else, just release everything that is on your heart. If you are feeling happy, anxious, frustrated, or discouraged, pour it all out. Share it with the Lord as a prayer and let Him know what is going on inside of you.

This is also a great time to think about what you want to focus on during your work block. Start to prioritize and jot down some bullet points of what you want to accomplish. This is not about creating a rigid to do list. It is just about getting everything out of your head so you can show up with a clearer mind.

E – Express Gratitude

Before you dive into your work, take a moment to shift your posture toward gratitude. This is not about pretending everything is perfect. Even in a hard season, there is always something to be grateful for.

I have found that when you focus on the good, the good gets better. And when you focus on the hard and the negative, that grows too. Gratitude shifts us from striving and hustle to surrender and contentment. And if you are not content where you are, you are not going to be content where you are going either.

A – Ask

This is your opportunity to pour out your needs to the Lord and ask for exactly what you need. And I mean exactly. God loves it when we are specific.

James 1:5 says: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives it generously.”

Instead of a blanket prayer for wisdom or clarity, get specific. Tell Him exactly what you are struggling with. Tell Him what you need help with in your business today. He already knows, but He wants you to come to Him honestly and openly with the details.

L – Listen

This is the most important step, and honestly the hardest one. After you have released, expressed gratitude, and asked, it is time to just be still and listen.

I know this feels uncomfortable, especially at first. You might wonder, “Is that really God or is that just me?” And that is completely normal. When I first started doing this, I barely heard anything. The first time I think I just heard the word rest. A few weeks in I started getting sentences. Now two years later I get full paragraph downloads of things the Lord is speaking to me that I never could have come up with on my own.

It takes practice. But I promise you it is worth it. And the more you show up and make space for Him, the more natural it becomes.

A practical tip: put a sticky note on your laptop that says “Business Meeting” so you never forget to start your work block this way.

Your Challenge This Week

Set aside 15 to 20 minutes before one of your work blocks this week and try it. Release. Express gratitude. Ask. Listen.

If you can do it before every work block, that is the goal. If not, start with once a week and build from there. The point is just to start carving out intentional time and making space for the Lord to move.

And for accountability, I would love for you to come find me on Instagram at @thepurposegathering and tell me when you are going to do your first business meeting. I want to follow up with you and hear how it goes.

A Note Before You Go

Friend, I have never once regretted doing a business meeting with God. Not once. Have I grumbled about it at the beginning and not felt like doing it? Absolutely. But every single time I sit down and do it, I remember that the Lord is calling me to slow down and shift my gaze onto Him. And when I do that, everything starts falling into place.

You do not have to do life and business alone. And you do not have to figure it all out in your own strength. Come hang out with us here every week, and I cannot wait to see you in the next blog post.
